Can I search and copy text in a scanned PDF?

Search and copy require a PDF with a text layer. Scanned PDFs containing only images do not have searchable or selectable text here. OCR is not yet available in PDF Viewer.

Share to EbookIndie on Android

Android: install EbookIndie PDF Tools with Chrome. From a file app, choose one PDF → Share → EbookIndie. If it is missing, reopen the app or use Open PDF. iPhone: choose Open PDF, then select a file from Files.

An internet connection is needed to open the viewer. Files are read locally once the viewer is ready.

EbookIndie PDF Tools

All tools are free, with no daily usage limit. Open them from your computer or phone.

Windows: Desktop & Start menu

  1. Install with Chrome or Edge. Select Create desktop shortcut or Pin to Start if offered.
  2. Press the Windows key, search for EbookIndie PDF Tools, then right-click to pin it to Start.
  3. Desktop icon missing? Chrome: open chrome://apps → right-click EbookIndie PDF Tools → Create shortcuts → choose Desktop and the applications menu. Edge: edge://apps → Details → Create Desktop shortcut.

Manual installation / icon update

Chrome: ⋮ → Cast, save and share → Install page as app. Edge: ⋯ → Apps → Install this site as an app. If Chrome shows App update available, review and accept the logo update. Menu names can vary.

Uninstall from Windows
  1. Open Windows Settings → Apps → Installed apps (Apps & features on Windows 10).
  2. Find EbookIndie PDF Tools → ⋯ → Uninstall.
  3. Or use the app window’s ⋮/⋯ menu → Uninstall EbookIndie PDF Tools, or the browser app manager above.

Deleting a desktop shortcut only removes the shortcut. Uninstalling does not delete PDFs already downloaded to your computer.

Android

In Chrome, tap ⋮ → Add to Home screen → Install. To remove, press and hold the app icon → Uninstall.

iPhone / iPad

In Safari, tap Share → Add to Home Screen. Enable Open as Web App if available. To remove, press and hold the icon → Remove App or Delete Bookmark.

Internet is required. File capacity limits are shown in each tool. Your browser and Windows manage Desktop and Start shortcuts.
